The work develloped by LASIGE researchers Tiago Guerreiro, Luís Carriço and Diogo Marques, in collaboration with researchers from the University of British Columbia, about the intrusions of Facebook accounts by nearby people, received high media attention. The research was accepted for publication (see the article here) in the conference of human factors in computer systems, ACM CHI, the most relevant in the area of human-machine interaction, worldwide.
The competitive IBM Faculty award, was granted to Alysson Bessani. This prize is awarded to Professors from the best Universities around the world, who are suggested by IBM Research investigators and then assessed internally at the company.
The forthcoming Dagstuhl Seminar (17051), dedicated to the topic Theory and Applications of Behavioural Types, will be co-organised by Vasco Vasconcelos. The organising team it's completed by Simon Gay from the University of Glasgow (GB), Philip Wadler from the University of Edinburgh (GB) and Nobuko Yoshida from the Imperial College London (GB).
The 2nd LaSIGE Workshop will be held in January 18, 2017 and aims at reinforcing the connections among its members and the scientific community.
Various works of its members will be presented during the event, that also count with invited lectures by Prof. Patrick Olivier, founder and leader of the Open Lab research center, and Prof. Luís Caires director of the NOVA LINCS research center.
Francisco Couto presented the talk "Towards a privacy-preserving environment for genomic data analysis" at iMM - Instituto de Medicina Molecular, under the seminars series dedicated to the topic "Computational Biology and Bioinformatics".
Carlos Duarte participated as invited speaker in the last edition of the NEM Summit, an international conference on Media and Content organised by the NEM Initiative, where he presented the talk with the title “Universal is not enough: going back to Personal”, at the first time in the history of the event that was hosted a session on media accessibility, named "Accessibility - Is it the greatest challenge in the media industry today?".
