The next COST Action ARVI (Runtime Verification beyond Monitoring) meeting is being organized by José Rufino, and will take place at FCUL, Lisbon, Portugal, June 8-9, 2017. The Lisbon meeting is part of a series of meetings promoted by this action, that aims to build expertise by putting together active researchers in different aspects of runtime verification.
The LASIGE members Pedro Sá da Costa and Fernando Ramos, in joint work with Miguel Correia (IST-UL), have won the Best Student Paper Award in CCGRID 2017 - 17th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud and Grid Computing, with their work entitled Chrysaor: Fine-Grained, Fault-Tolerant Cloud-of-Clouds MapReduce.
Fernando Ramos was invited to deliver a keynote speech at DISSECT 2017 - 3rd IEEE/IFIP Workshop on Security for Emerging Distributed Network Technologies, that will take place at May 12th, 2017, in Lisbon, Portugal.
The speech will be about Sirius, a network virtualization platform that addresses security and dependability limitations of multi-tenant network virtualization platforms, by creating the abstraction of user-centric clouds.
Several LASIGE members were involved in the organization of the third edition of "Girls in ICT@ Ciências.ULisboa", that took place at May 6th, 2017.
The "Girls in ICT Day" - World Day for Young Women in Information and Communication Technologies, is an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union, that visa to raise awareness to young women about career opportunities in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
The Talk@ DI of last February 7th, presented by Chen Wang, vice diretor at Future Media Convergence Institute (FMCI), Xinhua Net, China, was dedicated to the subject "Sensing a Live Audience", with particular interest to LASIGE's Human Computer Interaction research area.

Nuno Neves was invited to a brainstorm session about the Impact of Telco/TI/Contents convergence and the Digital Transformation in 2020, in an event associated to the 1st anniversary cellebration of Altice Labs. The session, that occured at February 16th, 2017, addressed the society impact in 2020 related to ethics, policies, privacy and security.
The 10th edition of the International Workshop on Programming Language Approaches to Concurrency- and Communication-cEntric Software (PLACES 2017) will be exclusively organized by Vasco Vasconcelos, and will take place at Uppsala, Sweden, April 29th.
PLACES is affiliated with the international Conferente ETAPS 2017, and offers a forum where researchers from different fields can exchange new ideas on key challenges to modern and future programming– where concurrency and distribution are the norm rather than a marginal concern.
The LASIGE | ULisboa team, composed by Miguel Rodriques, Miguel Falé and Francisco Couto was awarded at the 4th edition of the BioASQ Challenge - A challenge on large-scale biomedical semantic indexing and question answering, that took place in 2016. The challenges include tasks relevant to hierarchical text classification, machine learning, information retrieval, QA from texts and structured data, multi-document summarization and many other areas.
The portuguese Centro Nacional de Cibersegurança (National Center of Cybersecurity), invited Nuno Neves to participate in a round table about ransomware in an event fully dedicated to the subject, that took place at CNCS headquarters at January 27th, 2017. The panel was composed by members from academia, corporate and specialized press.
